2011 Varsity Triathlon

Last week was an outstanding event, a mini triathlon in Pima Arizona sponsored by the Coronado District of the Boy Scouts of America. We took 10 boys and 3 adults from our unit. We arrived around 7:00 PM and got registered and 'marked' right away. We set up camp and had some pizza provided by our Stake.

Later, the boys went to a huge outdoor dance at the local LDS church and had a great time despite fact that there were way more boys than girls. The adults went on a reconnaisance mission to check out the course. The bike route had a few more hills than we were expecting, and we were glad to see some dirt on the run portion. This is how old age and treachery beats youth and skill...

We camped out overnight at the ball fields. It was a bit noisy, but the weather was incredibly mild. The next morning we got our bikes ready and headed to the pool. We got an early start time and everyone did great!

Many thanks to the organizers of this event and for the gracious people of Pima. Thanks to all the youth leaders for preparing our young men, you are awesome

A am pleased to say that my time was the fastest of our group. I even got a T-shirt that says 'I Beat President Winters' I'm going to wear that one all year!

Here's an article from the Eastern Arizona Courier newspaper
and a video

P.S. favorite car sticker in Pima "We don't rock them gansta clothes, we be wearing Wrangler jeans"

2011 Pat's Run - We did it!

Woo Hoo! Congratulations to everyone for finishing Pat's run. We had a great time, it was a perfect day for the event. We had a couple friends join us this year and my mom too - way to go Grammy!

We got up extra early and picked up our friends and made our way down to the park-n-ride at 38th st & Washington to hop on the light rail. We saw lots of other racers there and made it down to ASU in plenty of time. My mom had gotten there even earlier and we were able to find her in a sea of people without any problems. Thank goodness for cell phones!

Wow! - there were over 30,000 people there, even a few famous people here and there. Jesse McGuire played the National Anthem on his trumpet - he was really good. Jake Plummer was the official starter. The event was covered live by Channel 12, you can check out more here: AZ Central Pics and here: AZ Central Story Here are our official times - yay for our team 'the Crew'
